The NECF is a smart partnership voluntary organization comprising public-private sectors and civic organizations. It is a public private dialogue convener and its strength lies in the diversity of membership.
The Patron of the NECF IS the President of the Second Republic of Zimbabwe Hon. Cde. E. D. Mnangagwa
The NECF obtains funding from its founding members, that is, Government and the private sector as well as well-wishers such as development partners.
The NECF was created through statutes that guide the operations of the organization. It is governed by a Board of Trustees which delegates operational responsibilities to the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee has two (2) co-chairs one from the public and other from the private sector. A secretariat headed by the Executive Secretary manages the day to day operations. The NECF plays an advisory role to Government.
The secretariat compiles a recommendations report for the Government.
The National Economic Consultative Forum (NECF) is an innovative mechanism of co-operative governance through dialogue and consensus building between Government and the private sector, labour, academia and civil society. It is a voluntary association of citizens desirous to act in common purpose in pursuit of Zimbabwe’s socio-economic development goals. Its formation in July 1997 was inspired by the philosophy of Smart Partnership. The concept of smart partnerships propounds that any economy is an integrated whole with the general infrastructure, business processes and social responsibilities. All the functionaries support each other to create limitless opportunities and wealth that is then shared equitably.
Partners, be they political leaders, civil servants, entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, management, labour, academia or civic society in general, play different roles according to their different circumstances, but all operating from the same set of principles in a process which unites people in achieving mutual prosperity. “Together we make Zimbabwe Great” is the NECF Motto.
